Birthday aside, this is an action-filled jam-packed whirlwind of a week! Here’s the breakdown of everything I’m attempting to do (which may or may not include laundry):
Monday (yes, that’s today):
Planning to do some b-day pre-gaming with friend and fellow writer/blogger Thomas Pizzola. Not exactly sure where yet, but hopefully somewhere with craft beer and good tunes. Look for my check-ins on Untappd. UPDATE: Tonight’s plans moved to tomorrow, so I may end up at the Acoustic Cafe in Black Rock for some Latin grooves with the Cosmic Jibaros.
Tuesday (the big day!):
NO PLANS. Will probably end up doing something exciting, like laundry. I’m down to my B-list underwear. *SEE MONDAY* (so much for laundry day)… New Haven bound for beer, pizza and birthday mayhem.
Wednesday: The birthday celebrations continue, starting at my fave new spot in Black Rock — Walrus + Carpenter, a smokehouse/gastropub featuring 100% wood-smoked meats, seasonal plates and an impressive selection of American craft beer and spirits. After sufficient sousing, the party moves across the Avenue to the Acoustic Cafe (a favorite neighborhood haunt) for rump-shaking funk with The Durkins + Friends. (After which I plan to go home and pass out. BIG weekend ahead.)
Thursday – Sunday: THE VIBES. The Gathering of the Vibes, now in its 18th year, is THE premier music festival in all of Connecticut, and the biggest birthday party a girl could ask for. This marks my second year as volunteer staff in the VIP Hospitality tent — it’s hard work (fishing through buckets full of sand to clean out the cigarette butts buried like cat turds is pretty gross, for instance) but totally worth it. In exchange for volunteer time, you get a weekend camping pass. And you make new friends. Awesome deal, IMO.
So there it is, my crazy birthday week. If you see me, wish me a happy. And get me a beer.
